What is a Good Graphics card RAM Size?

You might be asking, “What is a good graphics card ram size?” Every graphics card user has its requirements for RAM size, so that will depend on the type of game you’re playing or the work you are doing. Generally speaking, 8GB of RAM should suffice for most gamers and content creators – but if you’re looking for an upgrade for your computer to play games at their highest settings with 4K resolution or to run the latest power demanding software, you might need 16GB. For example, if you want to play games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla or Watch Dogs Legion, then it’s likely that you’ll need a GPU with higher VRAM that can handle all the action happening on-screen. Also, content creators or video editors know that how much important is a graphics card for video editing. So what is a good graphics card ram size?

In this guide, we’ll discuss everything in detail. A good VRAM is only one portion of a good graphics card; other things makes a GPU a good option.

What is the best graphics card ram size?

You cannot judge the performance of a graphics card by its RAM size. If you love playing games and you are looking for a graphics card that can run the latest games with high resolution and graphics, then a 6GB GDDR6 or 8GB GDDR6 VRAM size is best. In addition to RAM Size, other factors also play a role in making the gaming experience better.

To explain this thing better: The Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti is a 4 GB Graphics card, but it’s much slower than Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB. Whereas GTX 1060 has lower VRAM. The new Nvidia RTX 3060 has 12 GB of GDDR6 VRAM, but it’s much slower than RTX 3070, which has 8 GB of VRAM.

Most of the 6GB and 8GB graphics cards can easily run many latest games. The Nvidia GTX 1660 Super is an excellent 6 GB graphics card, and in 8GB cards, the RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3070 are great options for 1080p and 1440p gaming. They can also handle heavy works loads like 3D rendering, high-resolution editing etc.

For mid-level gaming, a 4GB GDDR6 graphics card are a great option, and the Nvidia GTX 1650 Super is by far the best 4GB graphics card. But in 2021, 2022 games 4GB VRAM is not enough for high-resolution gaming.

What things to check in a graphics card other than VRAM?

In the Memory, check the Memory Bus, Memory Type, Bandwidth and Memory Clock speed; higher is better. There are many things like Shading units, Boost Clock, Base Clock, Tensor Clocks, Direct X version etc., that affects gaming, so if we also discuss these things, then it will take too long. In summary, before spending any money on any GPU, you should investigate its gaming performance and benchmarks.

A good memory Bus is 256 Bit, and a 448 GB/s is a good memory Bandwidth. A good GPU should have a memory clock of at least 14 Gbps.

Please don’t get caught in the numbers; and many people may say this Graphics card is better because it has that much RAM, and that’s not good because it has 3 or 4 GB of RAM. There are many 3 GB graphics cards that are better than 4 GB graphics cards and many 8 GB graphics cards that are better than 16 GB graphics cards. But yes, don’t get a 1 or 2 GB of graphics card because they can perform well on high resolution. So, does VRAM effects resolution?

Does higher resolution require more VRAM?

Yes, with a higher resolution, you need a higher GPU VRAM. We tested the Nvidia GTX 1660 Super in Fortnite. The GPU was utilizing 2903 MB of VRAM at 1080p High graphics settings, and when switched to 1440p, it started utilizing 3589 MB of VRAM.

Also, by increasing the graphics settings, the GPU uses more VRAM. At 1080p Low graphics, GPU was only using 1887 MB of VRAM, but the usage increased to 3555 MB at Ultra settings.

So, the VRAM size also depends on your needs. But for today gaming, a minimum of 4GB of VRAM is considerable.

Conclusion

This isn’t all about the number; some people say, “well, this card is better because it has 16 or 8 gigs of VRAM.”. However, if the VRAM is 16 gigs and it’s slow, then you’re obviously going to have performance issues. Knowing how each feature works together to enhance GPU performance is essential.

For today’s gaming, at least a 6GB of Graphics card Ram Size is considered good.  For Content creators and an External-GPU with a 4 GB GDDR6 VRAM is adequate.
